In Croatia you will find stunning views and varied landscapes where riding areas are unspoilt and surrounded by small villages, open plains, pastures, mountains, lakes and rivers. On our ranch we offer family atmosphere and any help during the trail is very welcome. Our trails are for people looking for adventure and challenges where you and your horse can form a real team.

You need to be competent in grooming, tacking up, mounting and dismounting of your horse, however there is always help at hand if needed. It is important that you can take care of your horse and equipment and enjoy entire days on the horse in every pace. Luggage and extras are transported by vehicle to each stop off point. Each day of our trails you can explore the natural beauty of the varied landscape. You will experience breathtaking rides; crossing and swimming through rivers, galloping through open plains and climbing mountains.

Our horses are fit, some lively, some quiet, but all responsive and each having their own individual character. In more than 20 years of experience of running and guiding trails we always care most for guest's happiness and our horses! You will enjoy Croatia's delicious traditional cuisine, wines, Schnapps and other drinks. During the trails we will stay in places that allow you to explore the stunning countryside and experience the lives of locals who are indeed very generous, warm-hearted and kind. Don't expect many luxuries, we try to keep it the natural way and close to nature. Both trails offer beautiful countryside of the region and magical moments with your horse.

 

Explore yourself the hidden nature and treasured areas of Dalmatia!

On the Dalmatia Trail you will ride on historically old tracks, Roman and Napoleon roads, old cattle ways and through the beautiful rural parts of Dalmatia with its Karst landscape. We will follow the River Cetina and Peruca lake straight to one of the sources of the River where clear and refreshing spring water rises from deep down the earth. In the summertime there are various opportunities for refresh yourself and your horse by swimming in lakes and rivers. We will also experience the local culture when passing through the small villages full of friendly and welcoming people.

This trail is suitable for intermediate to experienced riders who are used to spend long days on horseback and are also willing to fast gallop. We usually start our ride after breakfast and will have short breaks and water stops before lunch. Over lunch breaks the horses are always turned away on the pasture land and set free to roll and graze and relax. And we too have a chance to chat or take a short nap!

This trail is for adventurous people, be prepared for good food and forward going horses!

Trail Itinerary

Saturday

Arrival during the day. In case you wish to visit the town of Split and the remains of the Diocletian Palace (over 1700 years old,) or the little town of Trogir, (both under UNESCO protection) we can also arrange transfer from town. Split is one of the biggest and most beautiful cities in Croatia with nice beaches. Once on the ranch you have the opportunity to get to know the other riders, horses and people. Dinner in the evening on the ranch.

Sunday

After breakfast we get to know our horses and set off for our first ride and enjoy a typical Croatian lunch. Dinner and overnight on the ranch.
This day is important to familiarise yourself with your horse. If you feel you are not yet matched with the right horse you can change your horse before the start of the trail.

Monday

The trail starts heading eastwards, towards the village of Ogorje. We ride through forests and have lunch on a high plateau where we can enjoy beautiful views from the surrounding valleys and mountains. After lunch we continue our ride into the next valley where we reach the night place for the horses. Dinner and overnight in a nearby hotel.

Tuesday

After breakfast we start the ride towards the river Cetina. We cross the river (if waterline is not too high) and follow the river for climbing the next mountain. In the early afternoon we reach Peruca lake where we and the horses can relax and can have a swim. Early evening we continue our ride for the the overnight sleeping place in a nearby guesthouse.

Wednesday

In the morning we head towards the spring of the river Cetina following the lake on typical dalmatian Karst landscape. Lunch place is close to the river where the brave ones can have a swim in the clear but very cold water of Cetina. In the afternoon we cross a wide open field where often big herds of sheep and their sheepdogs are to be seen and ride to the town of Vrlika. Overnight in a nearby guesthouse.

Thursday

Today we ride to the town of Vrilka and climb the hill behind the town. We reach lunch place on top where we can relax and enjoy the spectacular view. After lunch we climb down into the next valley and continue our ride through small villages and forests to overnight place of horses. Overnight and dinner in a nearby guesthouse.

Friday

After breakfast we ride through some big fields with plenty of trotting and galloping. After lunch we follow an old path through canyons towards home. In the evening we return to the ranch and enjoy the last dinner with our new friends.

Saturday

After breakfast it's time to say goodbye and everybody prepares to leave.

Itineraries or accomodation may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances but we assure you that this ride will be a real adventure.

All other days on ranch

Full board during the whole week

Group size:  From 4 to 8 people

Ability description: Intermediate to experienced. You need to be comfortable in trot, canter and at least willing to gallop. Not suitable for novices. This trail requires you to be fit and in case of steep terrain, you will be required to walk alongside your horse.

Total riding time: 6 days, 4 to 6 hours per day

Mein Freund und ich verbrachten eine wunderschöne Woche im September 2021 auf dem Dalmatia-Trail. Allgemein war die Gastfreundschaft, welche wir während des Trails erfuhren, einzigartig! Das absolute Highlight waren natürlich die Pferde! Sie sind gehfreudig und temperamentvoll, aber mit guten Reitkenntnissen problemlos händelbar.
Wir befanden uns fast ununterbrochen in unberührter Natur, auch die Ranch steht abseits der kleinen Dörfer. Meist ging es querfeldein oder auf kleinen Pfaden über Wiesen, weite Ebenen, entlang von Bächen und Seen, aber auch über Berge, wilde Landschaften und häufig unwegiges Gelände.

Vielen Dank für diese wunderschöne Woche! Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Die Reise war ein echtes Highlight und hat meine Erwartungen übertroffen. Die Unterbringung ist einfach, aber trotzdem fehlt es an nichts. Die Pferde waren gehfreudig, trittsicher und sehr verlässlich. Der Ritt ist nichts für Anfänger und zum Teil anspruchsvoll. Die Natur ist überwältigend und überhaupt nicht touristisch. Wir waren eine nette Gruppe und wurden sehr herzlich betreut und versorgt, Ivo und Mara sind auf alle Wünsche eingegangen! Es war eine tolle Reise!

Prima plaats voor een trektocht te paard. Heb enorm van de Plitvice trail genoten.
Zondag was een rit rondom de ranch om te kijken of het paard bij je past. Mij werd Avalon toegewezen. Superlief paard en lekker voorwaarts. 
Maandag gestart met de tocht. De avond ervoor waren de paarden vervoerd en wij gingen per busje naar het startpunt. Het was super dat de bagage onderweg werd vervoerd en er onderweg ook lunch werd verzorgd. De paarden werden afgezadeld zodat de paarden ook een lange rust hadden. Na de middag kon je weer opzadelen en ging je weer verder. Er werd gevarieerd geslapen. Drie dagen op de ranch en onderweg bij simpele hotels, guesthouses en zelfs een keer in de hooischuur bij hele vriendelijke lokale mensen.
Woensdag was er alleen een ochtendrit en hebben we in de middag het Plitvice meren bekeken. Zo konden wij even uitrusten en de paarden ook. De langste rit was ongeveer 7 uur. Er werd veel gestapt, maar er werden ook wel wat hoogtemeters gemaakt. Gelukkig was er genoeg ruimte om te draven en te galoperen. :D De paarden zagen er erg goed uit en als je zondag niet tevreden was met je paard kon je wisselen voor de tocht. De mensen waren ook super aardig en wisten precies de juiste route te vinden.

Die familiäre herzliche Athmosphäre auf der Ranch, die Gastlichkeit,
die teils einfachen, aber sehr schönen Unterkünfte, die schönen Rastplätze
mittags mit Grillen und Sitzmöglichkeiten. Die nette und sehr unterstützende
Rittbegleitung. Alles war sehr gut organisiert, ohne Stress, das Essen war
einfach aber immer sehr lecker. Die Pferde sehr trittsicher, entspannt und lauffreudig.
Der Ritt war landschaftlich ein Abenteuer, der Trail teils schon auch recht
anspruchsvoll, auch die Flußüberquerungen waren super schön.
Es war nicht nur ein Abenteuer, sondern auch einfach eine tolle Erholung.

Der Dalmatien- und der Plitvicer-Trail bieten unbeschreiblich schöne und wilde Naturerlebnisse! Die Atmosphäre auf der Ranch ist sehr familiär, das Essen immer tiptop! Die Unterkünfte sind einfach aber gut, das Zelten in freier Natur und die Übernachtung auf dem Heuboden für Outdoor-Leute ein Höhepunkt. Die Pferde sind alle sehr vorwärtsgängig und als Reiter ist man gefordert. Für beide Trails muss der Reiter sein Pferd selbstständig ohne Hilfe versorgen und satteln können. Weil der guide oft ein schwieriges Pferd reitet, muss auch Aufsteigen und Reiten, wenn andere Reiter und Pferde etwas Dampf ablasse,  ohne Hilfe möglich sein. Wer diese Voraussetzungen erfüllt, wird viel Spass an den abenteuerlichen Trails und den superschnellen Galoppaden haben.

Super horses, fine food, fast trail

In spring 2015 we spent one week at Ivo’s ranch near Split and
enjoyed their hospitality during the trail. The horses were very
well kept, had a good behavior and were very good to ride.
We have been guided professionally through the beautiful,
remote landscapes and villages of Southern Dalmatia, Ivo and
his team took care of people and horses during all lunch times
and in the evenings - we were happy to receive two fresh cooked
meals each day! The atmosphere was relaxed familiar, we had
a very good time with them and can really recommend going on
a trail with them. However, riding experience is a must - quite often
we were going really fast… It was a pleasure!

Eine atemberaubende Landschaft, tolle, gangfreudige und super rittige Pferde, perfekte Betreuung durch Ivo und das Team sowie das leckere Essen machen diesen Urlaub zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis. Wir durften letztes Jahr bereits den Dalmatia-Trip geniessen und waren schon begeistert, aber der Plitvice Trail in diesem Jahr war das Tüpfelchen
auf dem i. Die einfachen Unterkünfte sind zwar nichts für 5-Sterne-Urlauber, aber genau das macht den Abenteuercharakter dieser Trails aus. Die hohen Anforderungen an die Reiter sind mehr als gerechtfertigt - für Ungeübte sind diese Trails nichts, da sie dem Reiter so einiges an Können und Kondition abverlangen. Fazit: eine wirklich tolle Reitwoche, die viel zu schnell vorbei geht - wir waren sicher nicht das letzte Mal bei Ivo und seinem Team und freuen uns schon auf unseren nächsten Trail.

Reiterparadies Kroatien!
Wer flotte Ritte durch unverdorbene, weitläufige und ständig wechselnde
Landschaften liebt, ist hier gut aufgehoben.
Saftige Kräuter- und Blumenwiesen wie aus dem Bilderbuch, Wald, Berge,
der raue Charme der Karstgebiete und die wunderbar klaren Flüsse und
Seen sowie eine erstaunliche Tierwelt...
Auch nach vielen Trails in aller Welt habe ich mich gefreut, etwas Neues
zu entdecken und war beeindruckt von Kondition und Eifer der Pferde.
Die Menschen im dünn besiedelten Binnenland sind freundlich und hilfsbereit - man fühlt sich willkommen! Eine humorvolle und umsichtige Rittführung und Betreuung durch die Gastgeber rundete das Ganze ab. Danke an alle für die schöne Zeit!

Both the Plitvice and the Dalmaita Trail will remain an unforgettable experience for me. It expected me breathtaking landscapes and the local food was excellent. The ambience at the ranch is familial and the croatian hospitality has deeply impressed me. Everywhere we were welcomed warmly and with a glass of self burned liquor. We were well accommodated by Ivo and his team and they ensured that we lacked for nothing. A very big THANK YOU for that!
As an animal lover I enjoyed the time at the ranch in full: dogs, cats, some chickens, tame pigs (Angeline Jolie and Evita Peron), rabbits and a canary bird. I will come again in any case and am already curious what animals I then will encounter on the ranch.
